Special Olympics Ontario Kitchener-Waterloo (SOOKW) is provides year-round opportunities in sports training and athlete competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Sports give our athletes the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, as well as, the joy of sharing their talents with their peers, families and the community.

As a grassroots, volunteer-based organization, SOOKW relies on the support and dedication of over 150 volunteer coaches, administrators, and event volunteers in order to fulfill our mandate.

Volunteering with SOOKW is an opportunity for you to make a direct impact on the quality of life of individuals with intellectual disabilities, and an opportunity for you to make a meaningful contribution within your community.

Getting involved with SOOKW is also an opportunity for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to:

  • Build friendships and networking connections.
  • Gain new skills for personal and professional development.
  • Gain opportunities for travel in Canada and abroad.
  • Share your love of sport.
  • Take part in our annual Provincial Workshop.
  • Experience the satisfaction of helping others develop and succeed--in sport and in life!

Your time and talents can make a difference in the life of a local Special Olympics Athlete.

Special Olympics Kitchener-Waterloo is planning its first annual, friendly, yet competitive, race to raise funds for our remarkable organization.

The race will be held July 18th, 2010 and we need help from a large group of volunteers.

We also require volunteer coordinators for pre-race planning (beginning now).

If you are interested in getting involved with the 'Dirty Dash', please contact Amberlee at afast@live.ca and I will give you more information and answer any questions you may have.
